Psycho-Educational Assessments
A comprehensive psycho-educational assessment measures your child’s intelligence, learning abilities, academic progress, written output, memory, and executive functioning skills. It also provides an overview of your child’s social, emotional, and behavioural well-being. This information is used to help you and the school better understand your child’s unique learning needs and develop recommendations for supporting them at home and at school.
There are usually 3 appointments
Appointment One – this is the parent interview, with questions about your concerns, as well as questions about your child’s developmental, educational, behavioural, medical, and mental health history. This can be a videocall or in-person. Parents and teachers are given questionnaires at this appointment.
Appointment Two – this is the assessment day for your child. Standardized tests are given over a three to five hour session, with lots of time for breaks. Most children say they enjoy the process.
Appointment Three – this is for parent feedback, to go over the results, talk about recommendations, and answer your questions. You receive a copy of the report at this meeting. Older children and teens sometimes attend this meeting too, although a separate “mini-feedback” meeting can be arranged for them
